ABOUT US

The Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre (ADR Centre) is the leading independent, nationwide provider of commercial dispute resolution and conflict management services in New Zealand.

The ADR Centre offers fair, prompt, and cost-effective conflict management and dispute resolution services via a panel of specialists who are experts in their respective fields. Through our specialist registries, we have proudly served industry, commerce, and the community for nearly three decades.

Purpose-built Dispute Resolution Centre

With expansive views of Takapuna Beach and Rangitoto, the ADR Centre is New Zealand’s only purpose-built dispute resolution facility. Boasting state-of-the-art AV technology, it can accommodate in-person, virtual and hybrid meetings and mediations.

OUR
STORY

Nearly three decades ago, our founder, John Green, found himself in a building dispute as a young contractor. Having gone through a lengthy and frustrating court battle that left him the victor but considerably poorer, he thought there must be a better way to do things.

John studied law and arbitration and set up an improved, accessible private justice system – what would eventually become the ADR Centre, New Zealand’s only purpose-built dispute resolution centre.

Before the term disruptive innovation was even invented, The ADR Centre challenged the status quo by introducing new dispute resolution methods and developing and delivering capped and fixed fee services – a unique offering in a market that has traditionally relied on chargeable hours.

The ADR Centre also recognised the need to appoint seasoned, subject-matter experts to its industry-specific panels. Our panellists are leaders in their respective fields, so if, for example, you have an IT, IP, or a building dispute, a panellist with the relevant experience will be appointed.

Our support team is approachable, accessible, and helpful. Those parties to disputes and/or their advisers who contact us seeking advice, tell us that they are grateful for the personal service and professional advice that our Case Managers and Registrars provide which demystifies the dispute resolution processes for them.

OUR
VALUES

Our company values guide all of the actions we take. They are the fundamental principles that underlie our purpose and reflect what is important to all of us who work here.

We act with integrity | Pono

Acting with integrity means doing what is right, even when it’s hard, or when no one is watching.

It’s about being open and honest and treating everyone with respect. Demonstrating a commitment to ethical principles, building a foundation of trust and reliability among colleagues and clients.

We work as one team, caring for and supporting others | Manaakitanga

Working as One Team, Caring for and Supporting Others means recognising that we are stronger when we stand together.

This value highlights the importance of unity, collaboration, and empathy. We value each person’s unique strengths and create an environment where people feel cared for, supported, and respected. We are striving to build a culture where everyone feels included and where clients feel genuinely looked after.

We make a positive difference and elevate others | Whakamana

Making a positive difference and elevating others is more than just getting the job done – it’s about looking for ways to lift others up and help them grow.

When we encourage and celebrate one another, we create a place where people feel supported, valued, and inspired to do their best and contribute to a shared mission.

We are curious and enjoy the journey | Hautūtanga

Being Curious and Enjoying the Journey emphasises a spirit of continuous learning, seeking out new ideas, finding better ways of doing things.

It also reminds us to celebrate the wins, big or small, appreciate the process along the way, and find joy and pride in what we achieve together.
